Smart Attribution
How PayMe suggests the right project and task when logging time — ghost chips, quick-log, and the attribution engine.
Smart Attribution
Logging time should take seconds, not minutes. PayMe's attribution engine watches your work patterns and suggests the most likely project and task before you even type.
How the attribution engine works
When you open the timer picker, quick-log, or manual entry form, PayMe ranks your projects and tasks by relevance. The ranking considers:
- Recency — what you worked on last (today, yesterday, this week)
- Agenda — what the planner scheduled for right now
- Frequency — tasks you work on regularly at this time of day
- Status — only

The result: the right task is almost always in the first 2–3 suggestions.
Ghost chips
When creating a new task or logging time, you'll see faint "ghost" chips pre-filled in the project and task fields. These are the engine's best guesses based on your current context.
- Accept — tap the chip or press Enter to confirm it
- Ignore — start typing to replace with your own choice
- No penalty — ignoring a suggestion doesn't affect future rankings
Ghost chips appear in:
- The timer picker (project + task fields)
- The inline task creation form
- The quick-log form
- The manual entry form
Ghost chips are suggestions, never forced. If the engine gets it wrong, just type over them. The engine learns from your corrections over time.
Quick-log
Quick-log is a one-tap logging flow for common scenarios:
- After stopping a timer — the entry is created automatically. No form needed.
- From the home screen — tap "Quick log", confirm the suggested project/task/duration, done.
- Via Telegram — "log 1h" without specifying a task. The bot picks the most likely one and asks you to confirm.
Quick-log defaults:
- Duration: 1 hour (overridable)
- Task: the engine's top suggestion
- Date: today
For most members, quick-log covers 80% of time logging with a single tap + confirmation.
