The Task List

How to use /tasks — your daily work hub for managing tasks, tracking time, and seeing what's on today.

The Task List (/tasks)

/tasks is your daily work hub. It shows what's planned for today, all your open tasks grouped by project, and gives you one-click access to timers and time logging.

Page layout

Today section — at the top, shows tasks scheduled for today plus any tasks the planner has fit into today's capacity. If you have an active timer, it shows here with a live elapsed counter.

Project groups — below today, all open tasks grouped by client → project. Each group shows the project's budget health at a glance.

Recurring section — repeating tasks (standup, weekly sync, etc.) appear in a separate section so they don't clutter your project work.

Task statuses

StatusMeaning
todoNot started
in_progressCurrently active (timer may be running)
pausedStarted but paused — resume when ready
doneCompleted, won't appear in future planning

Starting work

Every task has a play button. Tapping it starts a timer and moves the task to in_progress. Only one timer can run at a time — starting a new one stops the current one automatically.

See Logging Time for full details.

Creating tasks

Click + Add task inside any project group. An inline form appears as a dashed ghost block. Fill in:

  • Name — required
  • Estimated hours — how long you think it'll take (used for planning)
  • Due date — optional, see Deadlines

As you type, Jev suggests auto-complete, deadline mode and Focus without changing the estimate you chose. Focus and the clock button can be changed before saving and after inline creation. Your explicit choices take precedence over suggestions. Press Enter to save, Escape to cancel.

A failed suggestion or undo stays visible. If deletion has been accepted but is still pending, the inline form retains the operation and checks it without sending another delete. Saved-task refresh warnings remain separate from creation failures.

Editing tasks

Click any task name to open the task detail popover. From there you can:

  • Rename the task
  • Change the estimate
  • Set or change the due date and mode
  • Adjust priority
  • Add a description or notes
  • Set dependencies or a reviewer

Every task has a shareable link: /tasks?task=<id>. The task detail popover opens directly from the link — even if the task is completed, from a past period, or not in the current list page. Telegram notifications and the project timeline use these links.

If a link points to a task you cannot access (or that no longer exists), the page shows a "Task not found or not accessible" message and the link is cleaned from the URL.

Task priority

Tasks have four priority levels:

PriorityLabelWhen to use
1CriticalBlocks others or has a hard deadline today
2HighImportant, should happen before lower-priority work
3NormalDefault
4LowNice to have, plan after everything else

Task completion controls show Critical with a red outline and High with an amber outline. Their tooltip and accessible label name the priority; the checked state still means completed. Done tasks use their normal completion style. Surfaces without a completion control retain their compact priority indicator.

The planner uses priority to decide which tasks fill available capacity first: overdue tasks always come first, then by urgency of deadline, then by priority number.

Recurring tasks

Repeating tasks (standups, weekly syncs) appear in a separate Recurring section. Each instance is independent. To stop recurrence, open the task or tell the bot "stop ricorrenza [task]". Tasks set to autoComplete log time and mark done automatically at end of day.
